Joey Porcelli is the author of Rise & Dine: Breakfast in Denver and Boulder, a restaurant guide that appeared on The Denver Post’s top ten list. She co­authored The Gyros Journey: Affordable Ethnic Eateries Along the Front Range and Take30: The First Three Decades of the Denver International Film Festival. Her magazine feature articles have appeared in SouthwestArtThe Denver PostColorado Expression, and many other publications. Her short story “Parachute Drop” was published in Sixfold Literary Journal in August 2021 and won first place in the Colorado Authors’ Leagues short story contest in 2022. Her humorous essay “Fare Le Publice” won an honorable mention in Tulip Tree Magazine’s humor contest in 2024.

Joey teaches memoir writing at the Arvada Center for the Arts & Humanities and served as newsletter editor for Historic Denver and Lower Downtown Denver, Inc. She has won awards from Denver Woman’s Press Club, Page International Screenwriting, and the Colorado Authors’ League. Joey is an active member of Lighthouse Writers Workshop, Denver Woman’s Press Club, and the Denver Film Society.

Joey has attended juried workshops at Key West Literary Festival and Lighthouse Writers’ LitFest. She has studied with Andre Dubus III, Maurice Carlos Ruffins, Cheryl Strayed, Porter Shreve, Emily Rapp Black, Junot Diaz, Peter Ho Davies, and Christopher Castellani among others.

A graduate of University of Michigan, Joey has a Journalism degree. She was editor of The Michiganensian yearbook and has set up a scholarship for students in the publications department. GO BLUE!
